Horizontal Machining Centre

History

In a company specialized in large-scale machining, turning and milling, continuous performance problems were found in a horizontal machining centre. After some time operating, debris and drill lubrication entry into the spindle caused poor lubrication and premature bearing failures.The spindle originally had medium preload bearings at the fixed-end and light preload bearings at the free-end.

Corrective Measures

NSK analysed the application proposed Sealed Super Precision Angular Contact Bearings in all positions, to avoid debris problems. Some additional modifications were done by the customer to increase sealing performance on the spindle.

These measures resulted in a significant improvement of the spindle performance, increasing its operating life from 15 days to 6 months.
