With repeated seal failures on his water pump application, the sewage plant operator had upgraded the seal arrangement to a mechanical type. This assembly, which included a location bearing, was incompatible with the new seal arrangement and the ensuing result was leakage. Seal failure occurred 4 times a year and replacement was taking 3 days to complete since replacing the seal also required the removal of the pump itself. The obvious outcome: costly maintenance.
Having identified the problem as being excessive axial movement within the complete assembly, our engineers recommended the use of an NSK QJM3.1/2 bearing. The resulting reduction in axial movement allowed the seal arrangement to function correctly. Unplanned maintenance has now been eliminated and plant reliability has been significantly improved.
