Vegetable washer
History
A customer was experiencing high failure rates on bearings in a vegetable washer / polishing machine which operated under harsh environments (i.e. water and soil/grit). The result was costly maintenance, with bearing changes every 3 months, and on occasions loss of production. The bearings were also difficult to access and often the maintenance engineers struggled to remove failed bearings without resorting to using hand grinders
Corrective Measures
NSK investigated the application and proposed replacing the existing bearings with our stainless steel series Molded Oil™. This range is designed to give high performance in water and dust contaminated environments. A machine trial was conducted and the Molded Oil™ bearings significantly outperformed the existing bearings (still operating after more than 12mths). This enabled the customer to introduce a reduced and "planned" maintenance regime.
