Introduction

A large pet food manufacturer in the UK was experiencing problems on their pellet extruder machine. They experienced bearing failures and loss of production every 10 to 12 weeks. The customer asked NSK to review the application. After the analysis it was determined the existing grease lubrication would not fulfill the bearing life expectancy. NSK recommended a high viscosity oil for a longer life and proposed a solution to extend the bearing life. The customer replaced the existing bearing with high quality NSK Spherical Roller Bearings (EA series) and Spherical Thrust Roller Bearings. The extruder was reassembled and run for 7 months without any failures.
